The Beef TAC: Results of the first Amazon-Wide Assessment of Compliance by Federal Prosecutors
Known as the “Beef TAC”, the Terms of Adjustment of Conduct (TAC) signed by the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) and a majority of meatpacking plants operating in the Legal Amazon is one of the main instruments for controlling deforestation in cattle ranching in Brazil.
On July 23, 2024, a webinar was held where prosecutors, ranchers, retailers, banks and civil society set out the results of the first Amazon-wide TAC audits and their impact. In the report, “MONITORING THE BEEF TAC: systematization and analysis of the results from the first unified cycle of audits”, we set out the main results of the most recent audit cycle in all key Amazon ranching states, highlighting some aspects that should be improved in the next rounds. In the case of Pará, we present a more detailed analysis with a comparison of the results of the five audit cycles already carried out, in order to assess the evolution of the companies’ performance in implementing the commitment.
